The Bundesliga's race for the title intensified in Gameweek 26, marked by record-breaking performances and unexpected outcomes that shuffled the standings.

As teams jostle for position, the narrative of the season takes exciting twists and turns, underscoring the unpredictability and thrill of German football.

Here is what happened in Gameweek 26 on the 23/24 Bundesliga season:

Friday 15th March

RB Leipzig Put Five Past Koln

RB Leipzig were extremely dominant during the Friday night fixture, beating Koln 5-1.

Openda managed to bag a brace during the match to help take Leipzig up to 49 points, keeping their Champions League qualification hopes alive with Dortmund now on 47 but with their own massive tie against Frankfurt on Sunday afternoon.

Saturday 16th March

Harry Kane's Historic Achievement

In a standout match, Bayern Munich showcased their championship pedigree by overcoming Darmstadt with a resounding 5-2 victory.

The spotlight shone brightly on Harry Kane, who etched his name into the Bundesliga history books. The England captain's goal before half-time was his 31st of the season, setting a new record for the most goals by a player in their debut Bundesliga season.

This milestone, however, was bittersweet, as Kane suffered an injury late in the game, casting a shadow over his record-breaking achievement.

Bayern Munich Closes the Gap

This crucial win for Bayern Munich has significantly impacted the Bundesliga table. The champions now sit comfortably in second place with 60 points, inching closer to league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who are just seven points ahead.

Leverkusen's match against Freiburg will be crucial in determining the title race's complexion.

Other Saturday Fixtures

Elsewhere, Augsburg beat 10-man Wolfsburg 3-1, Union Berlin beat Werder 2-1, Heidenhelm and Monchengladbach saw out a 1-1 draw, Mainz defeated VfL Bochum 2-0 and Stuttgart put three past Hoffenheim without reply.

Sunday 17th March

Leverkusen's Tenacity Shines Through

Bayer Leverkusen managed to secure a 3-2 victory against Freiburg. The victory was a testament to Leverkusen's resilience and determination to maintain their lead at the top of the table.

Florian Wirtz dazzled with a solo effort to put Leverkusen ahead in the early stages, though Freiburg quickly responded to level the score. The game saw Leverkusen regaining and then extending their lead, with Freiburg narrowing the gap late on, only for Leverkusen to hold on for a win.

This victory reopened their 10-point lead over Bayern Munich, emphasizing their intent to clinch the title.

Dortmund vs Frankfurt Result

In the only other Sunday fixture, Dortmund beat Frankfurt 3-1, with goals from Adeyemi, Hummels and Emre Can securing all three points for the hosts.
