Bruno Fernandes was once again central to Manchester United’s play as they edged West Brom 1-0 in an unconvincing home display.

The Portuguese was one of the few offensive sparks in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side as they claimed their first home Premier League win of the season.

But what did Fernandes give United?

Manchester United started the match in an convincing manner, but when Fernandes started to get a grip on the game, the Red Devils notably improved.

He buzzed around the park and created an opening that Anthony Martial saw foiled by Sam Johnstone.

There was a scare early in the second half when a penalty was awarded when he challenged Conor Gallagher, but VAR overturned the call. United would then benefit from the technology when they won a spot kick of their own.

⏱️ 56' Fernandes saw his initial penalty stopped by Johnstone but a retake was ordered as the keeper had stepped off his line. He continued using his trademark technique and just beat the shot-stopper, who had dived right.

It proved the difference between the team.

〽️ Fernandes: Rating Week-on-Week

✔️ IMPROVEMENT

Two disappointing performances for Portugal in the international break did not hit Fernandes’ confidence. After successive 5.9 FC Ratings against France and Croatia respectively, he bounced back with an 8.2 FC Rating. He is consistently his side’s outstanding performer.

Fernandes: What Next?

After an untidy performance against Istanbul Basaksehir last time out in Europe, Fernandes will be expected to spearhead United’s challenge against the Turks at home.

Then follows an awkward trip to Southampton as they try to get their top four push back on track. An convincing win against WBA has offered few guarantees.
