Harry Kane’s departure over the summer transfer window seemed inevitable and Tottenham Hotspur had plans in place for life after the England striker.

With new manager Ange Postecoglou making a positive start since his move from Celtic to Spurs, the north London outfit are showing promising signs for the remainder of the season.

Kane Departure Shook The Foundations

There's no doubt about Kane's contribution to the Spurs during his lengthy spell with the Lilywhites. Tottenham are currently behind the likes of Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool in the football betting odds to win the Premier League this season, and will be adapting to Kane's absence for weeks to come.

The club gave Kane his first-team debut back in August 2011 in a Europa League qualification round game against Scottish Premiership outfit Hearts. It was the first small step on what would be a fine Spurs career, that would see Kane become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer. Sadly for Kane and for Tottenham, his goals would not lead to any silverware, with a Champions League runner-up medal his best achievement in 2018/19.

Links with a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the summer were nothing new for Spurs fans, with Kane previously being linked with the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid. However, new interest from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich began to take root and would not go away.

Rumours turned into reports of talks and negotiations before a deal was finally agreed to see Kane leave his beloved Spurs for the Bavarian giants. Few fans could claim Kane owed the club anything and a chance to win silverware in Germany and challenge for the Champions League, in the end, proved too tempting for the England skipper.

Losing Kane on the eve of Tottenham’s opening Premier League game of the season at Brentford was always going to be challenging circumstances. The Gtech-Community Stadium is no easy place to go to but Spurs did manage to battle for a 2-2 draw against the Bees.

Postecoglou would go on to claim his first win as a Premier League manager in a 2-0 victory over Manchester United in north London, before another 2-0 win on the south coast at Bournemouth. Despite an early exit from the League Cup, Spurs kept up the feel-good factor going into the first international break of the season, thanks to a 5-2 win at Burnley.

There were concerns about where the goals would come from for Spurs after Kane’s departure but his old forward partner Son Hueng-Min stepped up with three goals in his first four games of the league campaign. Summer signing James Maddison has also made a positive start to life in his new surroundings, following a high-profile summer switch from relegated Leicester City. Brazil international Richarlison failed to get off the mark before the first international break but the former Everton forward has already shown he’s more than capable in the English top flight.

It’s early days in the season but there are enough positive signs from players’ form, to Postecoglou’s influence, that Spurs can enjoy a positive first campaign in life after Kane.
