Manchester United will enter a must-win Champions League clash against Atalanta with renewed optimism after a treacherous last week.

Following the embarrassment of a 5-0 defeat at home against Liverpool, United turned it around with a 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the capital.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer changed the system to a back three for that win, and could opt to do so again in Tuesday night’s crunch match.

United had to come back from two down to beat Atalanta 3-2 a week ago, and a loss in Bergamo could have them outside the qualification places in Group F with just two games to go.

Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and the fit again Raphael Varane should resume their positions in the new-look back three, protecting David De Gea in goal.

Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are likely to remain in the wing-back roles, while question marks will surround the midfield composition.

Paul Pogba was suspended for the Spurs game, but his availability in the Champions League might not necessarily mean he is thrust straight back into the side.

Solskjaer will likely go for more solidity at the base of the midfield, meaning a potential inclusion for Nemanja Matic instead of Pogba, with Scott McTominay perhaps likely to make way.

That should leave Bruno Fernandes to roam in the final third as the No.10, and Marcus Rashford could come in to partner Cristiano Ronaldo in the front two in place of Edinson Cavani.

With a Manchester Derby to come this weekend, a big win in Bergamo could do United a great deal of good not only in their Champions League campaign, but also in setting up the rest of the season.
