Sancho in, James out - How Man Utd could line up against Southampton

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could hand a first Premier League start to £73 million man Jadon Sancho on Sunday

Jadon Sancho is in line to make his first Premier League start as a Manchester United player when the Red Devils face Southampton on Sunday.

The England international has been Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's primary transfer target for well over a year, and Man Utd finally secured his signature earlier this summer after a £73 million deal was struck with Borussia Dortmund.

In the opening game of the season last weekend, Sancho started the game on the bench, but would come on to make his debut.

Now, after another week of training with his new team-mates, he could be unleashed from the opening whistle, which would mean Daniel James dropping out of the starting XI.

Man Utd were fantastic in the curtain-raiser at Old Trafford versus Leeds as they destroyed their rivals 5-1, with Bruno Fernandes scoring a hat-trick and Paul Pogba recorded four assists.

It is unlikely, then, that Solskjaer will make a raft of changes.

Raphael Varane was only officially confirmed as a new Man Utd player this week so he is unlikely to be involved, especially from the start.

That will mean a back five of David de Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw.

Fred and Scott McTominay should retain their places as the central midfield pairing.

Solskjaer confirmed that Edinson Cavani is back fit after missing the game against Leeds after an extended holiday due to the Copa America. But, he will probably start this one from the bench with Mason Greenwood continuing up top.

Pogba and Fernandes will make up the other two spots in the attacking midfield three alongside Sancho.

Anthony Martial will be on the bench, while Marcus Rashford is out as he continues his recovery from shoulder surgery.
