Rotation for dead rubber – How Manchester City could line up against RB Leipzig

Manchester City will top Group A regardless of the result against RB Leipzig on Tuesday night.

Pep Guardiola will be able to shuffle the pack when Manchester City go to RB Leipzig on Tuesday night, with top spot in Group A already confirmed.

The City boss spoke last week of a squad “emergency” that has befell him, but he will be able to use as much of what he has at his disposal without any risk in this match.

As it is, City’s depth means that a rotated side will still look menacing to Leipzig, who will come into the match without a coach after Jesse Marsch was sacked over the weekend.

Zack Steffen could get an opportunity in goal to give Ederson a rest in what would be the American’s second-ever appearance in the Champions League.

Changes could come at centre-back with John Stones and Nathan Ake coming in. The former’s last match was in the crucial win over PSG on matchday five, while Ake has only played twice since the end of October.

Oleksandr Zinchenko should get a chance at left-back, while Kyle Walker will likely have to go again on the right-hand side.

Fernandinho should come in in midfield, and the match could be an opportunity for Kevin De Bruyne to get a first start since contracting COVID-19 in the last international break. Ilkay Gundogan could complete the midfield trio.

Jack Grealish made his starting return from injury in the weekend win over Watford and could build more match fitness with another start here, while Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez will be fresh having only come off the bench at Vicarage Road.
