How Man Utd and Arsenal could line up in the Premier League

The Ralf Rangnick era starts at Manchester United on Thursday, even if he won't actually be in the dugout...

The Ralf Rangnick era will begin at Manchester United this week when the Red Devils face Arsenal in a huge Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

Unfortunately for Man Utd and for Rangnick, the German will not actually be in attendance in the dugout for the match as the club are still progressing his work visa.

Due to new regulations following Brexit, the process to gain a work visa in the United Kingdom takes more time than before.

Michael Carrick will again be in charge, though Rangnick will likely pick the team.

For Man Utd, David de Gea will start in behind a likely back four of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Alex Telles.

Maguire returns from the suspension that saw him miss the draw against Chelsea, but there are still slight concerns over Luke Shaw following a concussion.

Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani and Raphael Varane remain definite absentees.

Rangnick and Carrick may opt for a 4-3-3 so Bruno Fernandes may drop deeper into midfield alongside Fred and Scott McTominay.

Cristiano Ronaldo will more than likely be recalled after dropping out of the starting XI against Chelsea, making up a front three alongside Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.

Nemanja Matic may lose his place after United went ultra-defensive away at Stamford Bridge.

For Arsenal, they are sweating over the fitness of Bukayo Saka after he picked up a slight groin injury. Mikel Arteta confirmed on Wednesday that the club will assess him in training to see if he can start against Man Utd, though it is looking unlikely at the moment.

That could mean a start for Gabriel Martinelli.

Granit Xhaka and Sead Kolasinac are definitely out.

Aaron Ramsdale will start in goal, with Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White, Gabriel and Kieran Tierney making up the defence, with the Scot replacing Nuno Tavares.

Albert Sambi Lokonga and Thomas Partey will again feature in midfield as Arteta does not have a lot of options in this area.

With Saka a doubt, Martinelli could play on the left with Emile Smith Rowe on the right and Martin Odegaard in the number 10 role.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will lead the line.
