Down to bare bones – How Barcelona could line up against Dynamo Kiev

Barcelona will have to contend with a long list of absentees ahead of their Champions League clash with Dynamo Kiev.

Managerless and now without a host of first-team stars, Barcelona will travel to Ukraine to take on Dynamo Kiev in something of a mini crisis.

Ronald Koeman was relieved of his duties as head coach last week, but that didn’t help the Blaugrana over the weekend as they drew 1-1 at home against lowly Alaves.

Club legend Xavi is heavily rumoured to be taking the managerial hotseat, but he won’t arrive in time for Tuesday nights Champions League clash.

After a dire start in Group E, Barcelona finally secured their first win in the reverse fixture against Dynamo two weeks ago, but this time around it is a very different story.

Away from home, without a manager and missing as many as seven key players, Barcelona will have their work cut out in search of what will be a vital three points.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen is fit and will start in goal, and Oscar Mingueza and Jordi Alba are both available and should start at right-back and left-back respectively.

Gerard Pique was substituted 70 minutes into the Alaves match with a calf issue, a knock that is likely to keep him out on Tuesday.

That could see Clement Lenglet come in at the heart of defence to partner Eric Garcia in what will be a rare opportunity for the Frenchman to impress, having been used sparingly so far this season.

In midfield, Barca are likely to be without Pedri and Frenkie de Jong, so Sergio Busquets should remain as the No.6 with youngsters Gavi and Riqui Puig ahead of him.

There was a scare at the weekend when Sergio Aguero left the Camp Nou in an ambulance, the Argentine then proceeding to have scans performed on his heart due to a complication mid-match.

That will rule him out of this match and, alongside the absences of Martin Braithwaite, Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele, will lead to a heavy restructure up front for Barca.

Memphis Depay could revert back to a centre-forward role and Sergino Dest will likely be forced to start in an unfamiliar right-wing role, just as he did against Alaves.

The headline up front could be a first Champions League start for Philippe Coutinho. Koeman had previously hinted at more opportunities for the Brazilian after he scored off the bench against Valencia last month, and the former Liverpool man could now get a big chance in an important game.
