About Lebanon

Lebanon declared independence in 1943 but their national team is yet to make a significant impact either in their own continent or on the world stage. They first attempted to qualify for the Fifa World Cup in 1994, but failed to make the tournament proper, as they have done with every campaign since. In 2014, the Lebanese Football Federation attempted to catalyse a revolution which would see them openly invite players with Lebanese backgrounds from other nations such as the USA and France to feature for the country. In 2018 Lebanon performed admirably in the qualifiers for the World Cup, and finished second to South Korea in their second qualifying group, gaining a place in the third qualifying phase for the Asian Cup, but not the World Cup. Abbas Atwi has recorded the most appearances for his country, while Roda Antar has scored the most goals.
