European Goals of the Week, 21 Jan: Boga the best but still room for Messi

5. HERNANDEZ WITH HIS EYE ON THE PRIZE

Milan ran out uncomfortable 3-2 winners versus Udinese, having to rely on a late goal from Ante Rebic to claim all three points.

Their second goal was the best of the match, as Theo Hernandez lingered on the edge of the penalty area to latch on to a cleared corner kick, volleying a left-footed cracker into the bottom right corner.

4. BRILLIANT FROM BUDIMIR

Mallorca pulled off a surprising 4-1 victory over Valencia this weekend, with Ante Budimir scoring two.

It was his second that impressed the most, however, as the hosts put together a lovely move on the edge of the box which eventually saw Salva Sevilla pop a pass in to the feet of his team-mate, who cleverly evaded the challenge of his marker inside the box with a neat touch before sending a curling effort across goal into the top corner.

3. MATCHWINNER MESSI

That headline could be slightly misleading as although Lionel Messi does indeed save Barcelona all the time with moments of individual brilliance, it was actually a piece of team brilliance which saw them narrowly defeat Granada 1-0.

The move starts with the Argentine who fires a pass in to Antoine Griezmann, who in turn sends a first-time ball to Arturo Vidal. The former Bayern man then superbly flicks a lay-off into the path of Messi, who finishes the move up with a lovely finish into the bottom left corner.

2. TORREGROSSA TEARS IT UP

Brescia earned a point in a 2-2 draw at home to Cagliari with Ernesto Torregrossa scoring both goals. His second, which actually gave the hosts the lead in the second half before they were pegged back, was an absolute beauty.

After picking up possession midway through the Cagliari half, he turns swiftly to move forward before whipping a fantastic left-footed strike high into the top right corner. It was hit with his instep, but still had enough power to beat the goalkeeper from just shy of 30 yards.

1, BOLD, BODACIOUS BOGA

Jeremi Boga equalised in the second half for Sassuolo against Torino, and it quite fantastic fashion. The finish is impressive enough - a brilliant strike arrowed into the top right corner from range - but it is his little nutmeg on Tomas Rincon which makes this goal even more special

HONOURABLE MENTIONS

There were a couple of belters in the Bundesliga which deserve recognition. Thiago made it three in Bayern's in over Hertha with a thumping finish into the top left corner, while Timo Werner slammed a strike home from the edge of the box.
