Has there been a better player in the Premier League this season than Jack Grealish? Well according to the stats, it is certainly fair to argue that the Aston Villa man is number one.

Grealish has contributed a stunning five goals and seven assists in 11 games in all competitions this season for both club and country.

Incredibly, that is a goal contribution every 72.5 minutes.

Studying his data further on InStat, it is clear right away that the 25-year-old has taken a big step up compared to his performances last season.

He is now making an average of 1.55 key passes a game, up from 0.83 last season. He is having 2.5 shots a match, up from 1.78.

Grealish is crossing 1.82 times a game, which is up from 1.61. He is making significantly more dribbles (7 up from 5.9) and air challenges (2.3 up from 1.71), as well as general challenges.

The only area of his game that has taken a bit of a hit is the number of tackles he is making; 1.55 tackles a game down from 1.73. But this can also be put down to the fact that Aston Villa are performing much better in 2020-21 and thus are taking the game to their opponents rather than defending.

Grealish noticeably boasts the highest average FC player rating in the Premier League this campaign of 8.1, ahead of second placed Harry Kane, who is the only player with more assists than Grealish.

Only Kane has created more big chances than Grealish’s six in 2020-21.

Grealish has also produced standout performances in Villa’s two biggest games this season, showing he is a man for the big occasion. He got a perfect FC rating of 10 in grabbing three goals and two assists in the 7-2 thrashing of champions Liverpool. He then earned a FC rating of 7.7 – and bagged another assist – in masterminding last week’s 3-0 win at Arsenal.

It is no surprise that there have been widespread calls for England manager Gareth Southgate to make Grealish a permanent starter for the national team.

Nor is it a surprise to see England’s biggest club, including the two Manchester giants, circling around Grealish going into 2021.
