Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are on the cusp of completing their takeover of Wrexham.

Member of the Welsh club's supporters trust board almost unanimously voted in favour of resolutions that will allow for ownership of the club to pass into Reynolds and McElhenney's hands.

The vote brings an end to nine years of Wrexham being fan-owned.

It also marks the start of a potentially exciting period for the National League side, who will hope to start climbing the tiers of the football pyramid once again with the help of improved financial backing.

Reynolds and McElhenney are reportedly set to make an initial investment of around £2m in Wrexham.

Reynolds recently outlined the pair's aims for the club in a virtual presentation to supporters trust members.

"This is the third-oldest club on the planet and we don't see why it can't have a global appeal," he said.

"We want Wrexham to be a global force."

After news of the board's vote was released on Monday, a statement on the club's website read: "Both parties will now proceed with finalising the details of the takeover, and we will update Wrexham supporters as soon as we can."
