RB Leipzig head coach Julian Nagelsmann says Timo Werner is still in his plans for the remainder of the Champions League season, with the tournament set to recommence in August.

Europe’s elite club competition will take place over a week in Lisbon in a couple of months, with RB Leipzig having already qualified for the quarter-finals after dispatching Tottenham over two legs in the Round of 16.

Their strategy has been derailed slightly with the news that their star striker is set to leave the club and join Chelsea in July, which would make him ineligible for the Champions League restart.

However, Nagelsmann insists he is still a Leipzig player, and remains an important part of his plans.

“He is currently, as usual, in my plans to play the Champions League,” the coach said, before his side’s match against Fortuna Dusseldorf on Wednesday.

"He is our player and has not signed for anyone else. His importance to RB Leipzig is extraordinary.

“He has an incredibly good goalscoring rate, which you always hope for from a striker. Both parties will sit down and see what happens next. There are no regulations at the moment.”

Having been amongst the chasing pack in Bundesliga title race for the majority of the season, 11 draws in 31 matches so far has seen them steadily lose pace, with Bayern being crowned champions on Tuesday after defeating Werder Bremen.
