Mourinho tipped to 'definitely' win trophies with Spurs

Luka Modric thinks Jose Mourinho will "definitely" win silverware as manager of Tottenham.

After Mauricio Pochettino was sacked last year, the 'Special One' was brought in as his replacement, with him tasked with bringing trophies to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Mourinho has won competitions at every single club he has managed, even if his last two roles at Chelsea and Manchester United ended with him being sacked.

When he was at Real Madrid he signed Modric from Spurs and helped mould him into one of the greatest midfielders in the world. The Croatian is in no doubt that his former boss will bring success to Spurs.

“Yes, definitely," he told the Times when asked if Mourinho will win trophies.

“I have a special affection for him, for everything he meant for me. Tottenham did a great thing to appoint him as a manager because he is a proven winner.

“In Italy, England and Spain he won things and he knows how to win. I am hoping he manages to do the same thing with Spurs.

Modric believes that Spurs pulled off a coup by landing the Portuguese manager in the first place.

“It’s a great thing for Tottenham to be able to bring in someone like him," the Croatian continued.

“He wins everywhere. Even when people say, ‘Ah, he didn’t win in Manchester [United]’. He won the Europa League and other cups [League Cup in the 2016-17 season] because of his quality.

“He knows how to transport his energy to the players. If I had to say one thing [that he does differently to other managers] it is how he prepares for games.

“It’s something unbelievable, he gives you everything you need to know about the teams, where to make damage and exploit them.”

Tottenham finished sixth in the league in 2019/20 and start their 2020/21 campaign this weekend when they face Everton at home.
