Lyon’s domestic season may be over after Ligue 1 chiefs made the decision to end the competition early due to the ongoing pandemic, but OL have been given a Champions League boost as talisman Memphis Depay returned to training this week.

It has been a disappointing season in the Fr as they were forced to settle for seventh place and no European football for the next campaign due to the cancellation of any further matches.

However, in Europe they have enjoyed success and are in the middle of a crunch Champions League tie against Juventus.

The date of the second leg of the last-16 clash has not been confirmed, but Lyon hold a 1-0 first-leg lead after a solitary goal from Lucas Tousart on 26 February.

Prior to his serious knee injury suffered against Rennes in December, Depay was one of the in-form players not only in France but in the whole of Europe, earning a FootballCritic form rating of 89 for his performances.

His absence hit the team hard, and is one of the major reasons they were unable to push on for European contention.

The return for the second leg against Juventus could be key, as he has netted five goals in the Champions League this campaign to complement an impressive domestic record of nine goals scored in 13 appearances.
