Man City chairman promises more signings this summer

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has promised that the club will continue to spend money on new players ahead of the upcoming season.

Following the loss of the Premier League title, and their eventual loss in the Champions League to Lyon, Man City have already recruited Nathan Ake from Bournemouth for £40m and Ferran Torres from Valencia for £21m.

However, with the significant points gap to make up to Liverpool, Man Utd improving, and Chelsea set to add Kai Havertz to their already star-studded attacking ranks, Pep Guardiola and City have recognised that even more investment is needed for what will likely be a fiercely fought 2020/21 season.

The words of Al Mubarak will be music to the ears of City's managers.

"We don't take a one-year view, we take a three, five, 10 year-view and when we look at what changes or improvements we have to make for this squad, we are going to make them," the club chairman said.

"We'll be sensible and pragmatic about it but we will do what it takes, I think you've seen when it comes to the two acquisitions we have made, Ake and Ferran Torres, we moved quickly.

"There are additional players we will be bringing in and we will stick to the plan, obviously within the realities of the market that we live in today."

The highest profile player that City have been linked with recently has been one Lionel Messi, who could be keen on a reunion with his former Barcelona coach after becoming disillusioned with life at the Camp Nou after a disappointing campaign both on and off the pitch.
