Edouard Mendy went some way to ensuring that he will be Chelsea's No. 1 and allow them to forget about Kepa's recent horror shows as he kept a clean sheet at Old Trafford against Manchester United.

But what was Mendy's overall performance like?

In truth, it was a horrendous game of football, one which registered a measly 2.6 on FC's Match Excitement Rating, and the most encouraging thing to come from the game from a Chelsea perspective was Mendy's display.

After well over a season of error-strewn moments from Kepa, having a solid presence at the back must have felt like a novelty for Frank Lampard.

In the first half he made an excellent stop with his legs as Marcus Rashford ran through on the right, making himself big and making the stop. Just before the break he palmed Juan Mata's curling shot around the post - though it was a save you would expect him to make.

And in the closing minutes he denied Rashford again with probably his most impressive block, throwing himself to his left to push around the post and clinch his clean sheet in the process.

Mendy was particularly troubled by Sevilla in midweek as he kept a clean sheet with a 6.6 FC Rating, but here he was far more tested and received a 7.7 FC Rating for his performance.

What Next?
