Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has shot down any speculation that the club have attempted to sign Manchester United contract renegade Angel Gomes on a free transfer.

The 19-year-old’s contract expires on Tuesday, allowing him to speak to clubs as he sees fit after leaving Man Utd - the club he has been with since the age of 6.

Concerns over playing time, wages, and the direction of United were reportedly the stumbling blocks in any contract negotiations with Gomes and his representatives.

Rumours circulated that Chelsea were going to quickly pounce to make a play for his services, but Lampard says these reports are simply not true.

"I can elaborate to the point that it's never been mentioned on my end. That's it," he said.

The Chelsea boss was similarly cagey when asked about their reported interest in Declan Rice, saying no discussions on further signings would take place until after the season had finished.

Declan Rice is a good player. I've known him for a long time, he was in Chelsea's academy but there's no talk," he continued.

"I'll keep saying it about every player that we'll be asked about until this season is finished - there's nothing to say."

Chelsea’s next game is actually against Declan Rice and West Ham on Wednesday, when they could potentially leapfrog Leicester into third should the Foxes drop points versus Everton.
