The injury suffered by Arjen Robben at the weekend is not as bad as once feared, Groningen have confirmed.

In the club's opening Eredivisie match of the season, which ended up being a loss against PSV, Robben started the match only to be forced off 29 minutes into the game after pulling up attempting to perform a challenge.

The Dutchman was clearly distressed and angered as he threw his jersey to the floor in frustration.

Robben came out of retirement to feature for the club this season, and at 36-years-old, it was feared that, if the injury was a bad, one, it could see him once again retire from the game.

However, Groningen tweeted on Wednesday confirming that the injury was not severe enough to keep the Dutchman sidelined for an extended period.

Speaking to the club's official site, Robben said:

"We are just going to work very hard again and I am positive about that."

The Groningen fans had unfurled a 'Welcome Home, Arjen' banner for Robben prior to kick-off against PSV, while there were even suggestions that a return to form could lead to more international caps.
