Martin Odegaard has been excluded from Real Madrid's first squad of the season for their friendly fixture against city rivals Getafe.

Marca reports that the former Real Sociedad attacking midfielder has no new injuries or fitness concerns ahead of the non-competitive clash, but has simply been left out by head coach Zinedine Zidane.

Odegaard joined Real Madrid when he was 16-years-old to much fanfare but has taken time to reach the elite Los Blancos level, having been shipped out to Heerenveen, Vitesse, and then Real Sociedad on loan.

One potential reason for the omission is that the Norwegian did have a knee injury at the tail end of last season, but it is not believed he has suffered a relapse in Madrid training.

Indeed, Marca also reported this week that Zidane had been hugely impressed with Odegaard in training, which raises questions about the squad omission.
