AC Milan attacker Rafael Leao has broken the record for the fastest goal in Serie A history after hitting the back of the net after just 6.2 seconds versus Sassuolo on Sunday.

Hakan Calhanoglu ran straight at the Sassuolo defence from the kick-off before slipping through Leao, who buried the ball past goalkeeper Andrea Consigli.

This goal breaks the previous record by Paolo Poggi, who scored after 8.1 seconds for Piacenza against Fiorentina in December 2001.

Milan began the day in first place in Serie A, one point clear of city rivals Inter and nine-time reigning champions Juventus.

The Rossoneri are unbeaten in the league in 2020-21 and have not lost domestically since before lockdown in March. They have, however, drawn their last two matches.

Rafa Leao joined Milan from Lille in 2019 and his goal against Sassuolo was his third league strike of the current season.
