Mason Mount continues to provide the ‘X-factor’ for Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea, with the England midfielder netting the only goal of the game as the Blues won 1-0 at Anfield against Liverpool.

Mount was orchestrating things for Chelsea from the very beginning. He fashioned what appeared to be the first big chance of the game with a long ball over the top that Timo Werner planted in the net after rounding Alisson, yet the effort was disallowed for a marginal offside.

A favourite of Frank Lampard, there was concern that Mount would not be so heavily used under Tuchel. He has played his way into the team, however, with his 7.8 FC Rating the best he has managed under the German.

Mount: What Next?

Chelsea may have landed a blow in the race for a Champions League spot, but it is far from secured. On Sunday, they fact a challenging match against Everton, then five days later they travel to Leeds.

Mount, though, has surely secured himself a place in Tuchel’s starting XI in the long term.
