The highly anticipated World Cup Qualifying - Africa clash between Mali and Ghana is set to take place at Stade 26 Mars on Thursday night.

Both teams are keen to secure a crucial victory to boost their chances of advancing in the tournament.

Current Form

Mali

Mali has shown significant improvement over the last two years, becoming one of the most formidable teams in Africa.

The Eagles are currently second in Group I with four points from their first two matches. They performed admirably at the recent Africa Cup of Nations, topping their group and reaching the quarterfinals.

Mali has been dominant on home soil, remaining unbeaten since March 2022. Their recent performances include a victory over Chad and a draw against the Central African Republic in the World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana

Ghana, historically one of Africa's top teams, has struggled with inconsistency in recent years.

The Black Stars had a disappointing run at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, failing to advance past the group stage.

Currently fourth in Group I with three points, Ghana has not won any of their last seven matches in all competitions and has a dismal away record, not securing a victory since September 2022.

Team News

Mali

Mali will be without their captain Hamari Traore, who is serving a suspension, and Tottenham Hotspur's Yves Bissouma, who is injured.

New call-ups Mamadou Fofana and Salim Diankate may make their international debuts.

The expected starting lineup includes Diarra, Sacko, Kouyate, and Sagnan in defence, with a midfield featuring Coulibaly, Samassekou, and Haidara. Toure and Sinayoko are likely to lead the attack.

Ghana

Ghana has seen several changes under coach Otto Addo. Key players like Andre Ayew, Inaki Williams, and Joseph Paintsil are out due to injuries.

Thomas Partey will captain the team, and the lineup may include Ati-Zigi, Lamptey, Djiku, and Salisu in defence, with Partey and Issahaku in midfield, and Semenyo in attack.

Prediction

Given their recent form and home advantage, Mali is favoured to win this encounter.

The Eagles have shown consistent performance and resilience, while Ghana's struggles on the road and recent form issues make them the underdogs.

Our Prediction: Mali 2-1 Ghana
