Multiple reports from France suggest that Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 will be voided and the season will restart afresh in 2020/21.

Publication L'Equipe, among others, are expecting the government to announce that professional football matches will be banned until August, and instead of attempting to squeeze in the remaining fixtures, the aim is to start on schedule for the new season.

Is the 2019/20 Eredivisie season void, or not?Read More

It remains unclear whether runaway leaders Paris Saint-Germain will be awarded the title or indeed how the European and relegation positions will be settled, with the football governing body, the LFP, expected to meet in May to come to this conclusion.

Just last week, the Eredivisie made a similar announcement, declaring the 2019/20 season void, with no champions and no relegation.

But the decision of the KNVB has been questioned by Cambuur, the leaders of the Dutch second division, who are considering legal action after being denied promotion to the top flight as a result.

Other leagues such as the Bundesliga (May) and the Premier League (June) are striving to return to action behind closed doors in order to ensure the seasons are completed in time to start afresh in 2020/21.

But no league seems to have the answer at the moment, with all European countries at various stages of the disease.
