Chelsea were not at their best but overcame London rivals West Ham 1-0 thanks to a strike from Thiago Silva.
As the veteran defender shone, it proved another difficult night for the off-colour Timo Werner as the Blues bounced back from a defeat last time out against Wolves.

So who were the best and worst performers from both sides?
✔️ GOOD PERFORMANCE
Tammy Abraham: 8.4
A fairly subdued night for the striker until he scored two opportunist goals in the space of two second-half minutes.
Reacted brilliantly to latch onto Timo Werner's mishit shot and was then alive to covert a loose ball from close range.
Neither was a pretty goal by any means, but they all count the same and he did his job with some aplomb.
Mason Mount: 7.7
This was not necessarily an easy game for the Chelsea midfield, yet Mason Mount managed to find himself to the forefront of his side's most important moments.
He created the opening goal for Thiago Silva with a perfectly delivered corner, then he was instrumental in the third. A cross into the box caused confusion and allowed Tammy Abraham to convert his second in a couple of minutes from a tight angle.
It was not necessarily the most emphatic display from the Chelsea, but Mount more than played his part in the victory.
❌ BAD PERFORMANCE
Timo Werner: 6.9
Even if the German emerged from this encounter credited with one assist, make no mistake, this was another disappointing outing for the summer signing.
When clear on goal in the first half, he failed to get the ball out of his feet sufficiently to unload a shot of note. His 'assist' for Abraham's first was in actual fact a mishit shot, the type of effort that summed up his ongoing struggles in front of goal.
Had another fine late opportunity that he fired off the top of the bar when he should have at least found the target.
⭐ STAR MAN
Thiago Silva: 9.3
The Brazilian was by some distance the outstanding player on the field.
For much of the match, it seemed that his first-half header would be decisive in winning his side three points. He attacked Mount's corner brilliantly and was rewarded with the opener.
He was equally instrumental at the other end of the field, where he mopped up brilliantly the rare occasions that West Ham were able to fashion.
His reading of the game remains immense and the outcome of this encounter would have been very different had he not been present.
