Inter have once again fallen at the final hurdle in the group stage of the Champions League, after they failed to break down Shakhtar Donetsk in a dismal 0-0 draw which sends them out of Europe altogether.
Inter had 18 shots in total in the contest but landed just three of them on target in a game where they were frustrating as their build-up play continued to break down.
Lautaro Martinez struck a post in the first half and also had a flashing header that was well saved by Anatolii Trubin keeping goal for the Ukrainians.
But the visitors always looked dangerous on the break, with Taison stinging the clubs of Samir Handanovic as Conte began to look tense on the touchline.
In the dying seconds a long-range Christian Eriksen shot, with the Dane summoned from the bench, stung Trubin's palms but it was a straightforward save.
And Inter's night was summed up by Alexis Sanchez's header as the game entered injury time, which rebounded off the head of Romelu Lukaku and went to safety.
But ultimately Inter didn't do enough to win and they finish bottom of the section, with Real Madrid and Borussia Monchengladbach progressing to the last 16 of the Champions League, with Shakhtar headed for the Europa League.
