Atletico Madrid had La Liga's title within reach but Karim Benzema's late equaliser meant that the Madrid derby finished 1-1 and leaves the race wide open.

Luis Suarez's first half goal looked to be enough to settle things despite Real's best efforts in the second half. But Benzema's excellent interplay with Casemiro earned a point and means Atleti have a three-point lead over second-placed Barcelona with a game in hand.

✔️ Luis Suarez: 7.9

Luis Suarez could well have won the league for Atletico with this performance, had it not been for Benzema's late leveller. His move from Barcelona in the summer felt like a big deal, and he delivered in the biggest game of the season so far.

He ran clean through on Courtois in the first half and when faced up with the Belgian, he used the outside of his right foot to swerve the ball around his body and into the net for a superb finish.

Suarez looked as motivated as he has been for any match in years. He hit six shots in total, four of them on target, as he and Courtois enjoyed a personal battle with each other. His hold-up play was supreme and his ability to bring team-mates into the game was so good - but it just wasn't enough in the end.

❌ Marco Asensio: 5.6

It could have been either Asensio or Rodrygo for this position as neither contributed anything from an attacking perspective to the contest.

Asensio just doesn't look the same player that flourished before his serious injury, and he managed just 30 touches of the ball before being unceremoniously subbed at the hour mark.

Vinicius Jr did far more in his short period on the park than Asensio, who remains a real letdown for Real Madrid this season.

Jan Oblak: 8.0

Both goalkeepers were excellent on the day, with Courtois making a series of excellent saves to keep his team in the game, but it was ultimately the wall of Jan Oblak that was able to deny Madrid until the closing stages.

Oblak made four excellent saves including one to deny Fede Valverde, and his overall leadership of the team helped to shape the result in Atleti's favour.

Then in the closing stages Karim Benzema was presented with a clear chance but Oblak not only threw his frame in front of him to block the shot, but got up to block the Frenchman again on the rebound.

Benzema's eventual equaliser left him stranded and he could do nothing about it - but the other saves could still prove vital in the title race come the end of the season.
