Real Madrid knocked out of Copa del Rey by third-tier Alcoyano

Real Madrid were knocked out of the Copa del Rey as they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to third-tier Alcoyano on Wednesday evening.

Zinedine Zidane's side conceded five minutes from the end of extra time as they were unceremoniously dumped out in the round of 32 by their 10-man hosts.

The Frenchman had made nine changes to the side that had lost out to Athletic Bilbao in the Supercopa less than a week ago.

But it was still a team packed with quality, including the likes of Isco, Marcelo, Casemiro and Lucas Vasquez.

Eder Militao, who has recently been linked with a January departure, looked to have set Real on their way to victory when he scored the opener on the stroke of half-time.

However, Alcoyano hit back through Jose Solbes with 10 minutes of normal time remaining - a goal that forced extra time.

Having already brought on Karim Benzema on the hour mark, Zidane continued to strengthen off the bench as he introduced Toni Kroos and Eden Hazard in the added half-hour.

And Alcoyano's job got even harder as they looked to hang on for penalties when substitute Ramon Lopez received his marching orders for a second bookable offence.

However, there was still time for one more twist that saw Juanan score in the 115th minute to claim a famous victory for the hosts.
