Goretzka and Grealish to start? How England and Germany could line up in Euro 2020 clash

Gareth Southgate and Jogi Low will have a number of problems to solve in their respective sides before Tuesday's high-profile clash

Despite Germany’s troubles so far in Euro 2020, Gareth Southgate will know that he’ll need to get his England tactics and player selections spot on if his side are to progress to the next round of the competition.

Jogi Low’s side may not be the World Cup-winning champions of yesteryear, but they’re still a team full of excellent players that will be walking onto the pitch at Wembley with every intention of winning the game.

As such, Southgate is expected to alter his tactics slightly to play a 3-4-3 formation, with Jordan Pickford in goals, behind a back three of Harry Maguire, John Stone and Kyle Walker. This then allows England to play two wing-backs, which are likely to be Rice James on the right and Kieran Trippier on the left.

Despite their more defensive tendencies, Southgate is likely to stick with Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips in midfield, with Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden once again providing support to Harry Kane up front.

While results have varied wildly, Low is unlikely to make too many changes to his Germany team, with the former World champions likely to stick with their own 3-4-3 formation.

That means Manuel Neuer will remain in goals, with a back three of Antonio Rudiger, Mats Hummels and Matthias Ginter, with Joshua Kimmich as the right wing-back and Robin Gosens on the left.

The only notable change from the Hungary match should be a start for the recently injured Leon Goretzka in midfield, who will likely replace Ilkay Gundogan in the centre of the pitch and partner Toni Kroos in midfield.

With Thomas Muller returning from injury, Germany will likely start with a front three of the Bayern Munich forward playing as a false No.9 and Kai Havertz and Serge Gnabry playing off him.
