About Curaçao

The Curacao national football team has only been recognised as an official independent Fifa nation since 2011 when they played the first fixture of their history against the Dominican Republic, losing 1-0. In the years preceding their independence, they were known as the Netherlands Antilles along with the islands of Bonaire, Saba, and Sint Eustatius, but when these islands became part of the Netherlands proper, Curacao took on the history and status of the previous union. They have never qualified for a World Cup tournament, and have not even took part in the official qualifying process, having only reached the third round of the qualifying phase for the CONCACAF preliminaries. Their standing within world football has rose after 2017 when they won the Caribbean Cup, defeating Jamaica in the final with Elson Hooi getting two goals. Ergilio Hato has the most caps for his nation.
