Kylian Mbappe needs to leave PSG to be the best, says Modric

Luka Modric feels that Kylian Mbappe must leave PSG if he is to 'dominate' world football.

The 21-year-old is already a World Cup winner, having been a key member of France’s squad in 2018, and is generally considered to be a future Ballon d’Or winner and the heir to the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in being the best player in the world.

And at Paris-Saint Germain he has recorded comfortable league title wins, but the team has failed to make an impact on the Champions League during that period.

Modric, a Ballon d’Or winner himself, is of the opinion that Mbappe will need to leave France and more to a more competitive league in order to achieve his ambitions.

He told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "Mbappe has everything to dominate the scene.

"But I think that to make the leap in quality he needs to go to a championship in which his team does not win so easily."

As for his own future ambitions, Modric knows his days are numbered at the top level, now at the age of 34, and revealed that he would like to manage Croatia one day.

He added: "I'm sure I can play at a high level for two more years, then we'll see.

"I would like to end my career at Real, but it will also depend on the club. Of course, I'll do the coaching course. For us, the national team is a feeling above football, both as a player and as a coach I'd be honoured to be there."

Modric and Real Madrid returned to La Liga action this past weekend, defeating Eibar 3-1 after goals from Toni Kroos, Sergio Ramos, and Marcelo.
