Liverpool's potential title-winning match to take place at Goodison Park
Liverpool’s title-winning party could potentially take place just across the city as it was confirmed that the Merseyside derby would indeed take place at Goodison Park.
Should Arsenal defeat Man City on 17 June, Liverpool will win the Premier League for the first time in their history should they claim victory against Everton a few days later.
The fact that the title win could take place in Liverpool raised concerns about fans congregating within the city to celebrate near Anfield or Goodison Park, which is against current social distancing regulations on large gatherings of people.
It was speculated that the fixture could be moved to a neutral location, with all of Liverpool’s subsequent home matches also being moved, but the decision has now been made to play the matches in the locations as scheduled.
The group who came to the conclusion was compiled of representatives from the police, fire service, and other relevant safety personnel. Deputy mayor Wendy Simon was also in attendance, and he said safety was always the number one priority in any decision.
"A lot of factors have been taken into consideration, especially the safety of the players, match officials and staff in attendance," she said.
"We are confident the measures in place will allow the matches to be held behind closed doors without any detrimental impact to all concerned and recommend to the city council that the safety certificates for both grounds be amended to allow this to happen."
Should Man City defeat Arsenal, however, then Liverpool’s next opportunity to win the Premier League will be on 24 June versus Crystal Palace at Anfield.
