Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, most of European football's top leagues have ceased play. Should that instigate the cancellation of the leagues, we have the Player of the Year awards all ready to hand out.

Russian Premier League – Artem Dzyuba

The Russian Premier League continues as if nothing has happened, with stadiums full of fans, and it is unclear whether it will be stopped at a certain point. One thing is clear – Zenit are going to keep the championship title with ease, and their centre-forward Artem Dzyuba is the best player of the season by a distance.

The 31-year-old national team captain has flourished since the World Cup, and this term he is significantly better than in 2018/19. Dzyuba, who took part in 21 fixtures, is both the top scorer with 13 goals and the best assist provider with nine, thus directly contributing to exactly half of Zenit's 44 goals.

To put things in perspective, the entire Spartak Moscow squad scored 24 goals in 22 games.

The Zenit star is very powerful and his presence in the penalty area is immense, but at the same time, he possesses a deft touch, vision and tactical awareness. He is simply unplayable by Russian standards when on song.
