European Goals of the Week. 10 Dec: Sublime Suarez, Sensational Son
5. NEYMAR FROM A DEAD BALL
PSG ended up defeating Montpellier 3-1 this weekend but, after going a goal down, they had to wait until the 74th minute to equalise with the next two coming not long after to complete the turnaround. The equalising goal was scored by Neymar from a free-kick as the Brazilian send a whipping, dipping strike right into the stanchion of the top right corner, leaving the goalkeeper with absolutely no chance.
4. MALINOVSKIY BRINGS ATALANTA LEVEL
After going a goal behind against Verona on Saturday, Atalanta needed a little bit of inspiration from somewhere, and got it in spectacular fashion thanks to Ruslan Malinovskiy. The Ukrainian picks up possession in the right channel and cuts inside on his left foot to send a thunderous strike into the top left corner from about 20 yards, with the goalkeeper left nowhere near it.
3. A BALLON D'OR WORTHY STRIKE FROM MESSI
Lionel Messi won his sixth Ballon d'Or trophy this week, so naturally the game after he celebated by scoring a superb hat-trick to see Barcelona to a 5-2 win over Mallorca. While team-mate Luis Suarez will steal some limelight with his goal (see below), Messi's trio of strikes were all excellent. The first was the best though, and it came in signature fashion as he picked up the ball outside the box before whipping an emphatic finish high into the left corner.
2. SON OF A GUN
Over the past couple of seasons, Son Heung-min has established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League, and with goals like this it is hard to dispute that suggestion. After Tottenham easily deal with a Burnley attack, the ball comes to the South Korean two yards outside his own box. From there, he embarks on a remarkable sprinting dribble to the other end of the pitch before coolly finishing past the goalkeeper. The defending wasn't great, but they couldn't really get near him!
1. SUAREZ, STOP IT
It takes a special kind of goal to upstage the three scored by Messi in the same game for Barca the other night, but Suarez pulled it off with one of the most unconventional goals you will see this season. After a pass into the box the Uruguayan finds himself with his back to goal heading in the wrong direction. What does he do? Backheels the ball into the ground which allows it to bounce OVER the tackle of the defender as well as evade the goalkeeper to nestle into the corner. Ridiculous.
HONOURABLE MENTION
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic was the best player in the game as Lazio beat Juventus this weekend, and complimented his already-excellent performance with a superb goal as he takes the ball down with an expert touch before lashing a finish into the corner.
