FC Player of the Day, 3 Dec: Josh Maja (Bordeaux)

Martin Macdonald

No less than three Ligue 1 stars had a rating of 10 from Tuesday's action - Cristian Battocchio, Otavio, and Maja.

It is the young Nigerian who comes out on top, however, after contributing to four of his team's goals with a hat-trick and an assist in Bordeaux's comprehensive 6-0 defeat of Nimes.

The game was delayed for more than 25 minutes due to Bordeaux Ultras actually entering the field to protest against the American ownership of the club.

As things recommenced, Maja took the game by the scruff of the neck and scored the opening three goals to earn his hat-trick before setting up the fourth for Nicolas de Preville.

His first two goals displayed a veteran instinct belying his years to beat the opposition offside trap to coolly finish beyond the keeper. The third was a bit more substantial, as he somehow dug a looping strike over the goalkeeper from inside the box with little backlift.

He actually only completed 10 passes the entire game, but who cares when you play a part in four goals?
