✔️ Reece James: 7.9

The 21-year-old Chelsea full-back has been in and out of his team at club level, but he showed what he can do against San Marino.

He regularly made good progress down the right and a wonderful cross created a goal for Dominic Calvet-Lewin midway through the first half.

✔️ Mason Mount: 7.8

Continued his excellent form with Chelsea as he created a good deal for England, laying on an assist for Raheem Sterling with half an hour played. He won the ball high up the field before feeding a pass through for the Manchester City striker to convert.

✔️ Ben Chilwell: 8.8

Full-backs are so important when playing a team that has packed its defence, and England got excellent service from both of their wide defenders.

Chilwell has struggled to break into the Chelsea team under Thomas Tuchel but had bags of energy to make overlapping runs in this game and linked well with Mason Mount. This was demonstrated as he created the opening goal for James Ward-Prowse.

He also had a hand in the fourth goal, scored by Calvert-Lewin, although Lingard got the assist.

⭐ Jesse Lingard: 10

Lingard was at the heart of a great deal for England in this encounter, though he would only get one assist – on the fourth goal for Calvert-Lewin.

He was otherwise extremely lively, making several brilliant runs and offering a regular threat on goal. Indeed, he would have continued his excellent scoring run had his shooting been more accurate.
