Manchester City 2-0 Gladbach Player Ratings: Stones and Gundogan on form

Harry De Cosemo

Manchester City cruised through to the Champions League quarter finals with a 2-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach, which secured a 4-0 aggregate win.

First half goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan were enough in the end as City didn't need to ramp through the gears against a Gladbach side who looked as though they were beaten from the off.

Who shone brightest on the night?

✔️ Ilkay Gundogan 8.0

City's man of the season was there again with another goal, just six minutes after De Bruyne scored, to wrap up the tie.

The Germany international has been key throughout this campaign, and he showed why tonight. Away from his goal, he was in the right area and making things happen for Pep Guardiola's men, playing 17 of his 72 passes in the final third, completing one dribble.

❌ Alassane Plea 5.2

In fairness to Alassane Plea, as a substitute in the circumstances, it was always going to be difficult. But, he made no impact in 25 minutes and truly looked lost up front on his own.

He couldn't muster a shot on target while on the pitch, or even a touch in the City box. A very difficult second half.

⭐ John Stones 8.1

Another of City's main men really stepped up again in the Champions League. John Stones had the best pass completion of the evening with 97%, and that was the key part of his game in the end.

Defensively, because the opposition barely caused any problems, Stones didn't have a great deal to do. But he still won his only duel and two of three tackles.
