Erling Haaland: Player Rating and performance v Bayern Munich

Emmet Gates

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland was at his devastating best in Der Klassiker, but still couldn't stop his side from falling to defeat, as Bayern scored two goals late in the game to secure a 4-2 victory.

Haaland scored twice in the opening 10 minutes, as it looked like it was going to be the away side's day.

Yet Bayern turned things around by the end of the first half, as Robert Lewandowski reminded his younger counter-part that he is still arguably the best finisher in world football. The Polish striker would then secure his hat-trick with a superb goal in the dying moments of the game.

However, Haaland was excellent throughout his time on the field for Dortmund. Yet it remains to be seen whether he will remain at the club past this summer, as they currently languish outside of the Champions League places.

Haaland was devastating from the opening minute, and it didn't take him too long to get on the scoresheet.

⏱️ 2'

The game had just kicked off, when Haaland scored with his first shot on target, with his rasper of a shot nestling into the bottom left-hand corner of Manuel Neuer's goal, who could do little about it.

Haaland is reaching a level now in the current game where he can single-handedly make the difference, even if the team around him is having an off day.

Seven minutes later, he added a second after a lovely build-up from Dortmund. A beautiful switch of play from Emre Can on the right found left-back Nico Schulz.

Schulz combined with Thorgan Hazard wonderfully down the left-hand channel, Hazard then squared it for Haaland, who stroked the ball home to extend Dortmund's lead.

It looked like the away side were on course for a vital victory.

〽️ Erling Haaland: Rating Week-on-Week

Haaland's performance was an improvement on previous outings for Dortmund. His last game, against Borussia Monchengladbach, earned the striker a 6.4 FC Rating.

Haaland: What Next?

Haaland is clearly Dortmund's outstanding player. He's rattled in 29 goals in 28 games in all competitions, a simply staggering return.

However, Dortmund aren't having the best of seasons. They are languishing outside the top four in the Bundesliga, and should they fail to claw back into the Champions League places, then one imagines that Haaland won't be willing to stick around.

But with Haaland in the team, they still have every chance of making it into Europe's elite competition next season.
