Cristiano Ronaldo: Player Rating and performance v Verona

Stefan Bienkowski

When Juventus travelled to Verona on Saturday evening they knew they needed all three points if they had any hope of keeping up with Inter and challenging for this season’s Serie A title.

Andrea Pirlo’s side have been anything but functional and in-form this season, but the Old Lady still possessed a number of key players that could win a game almost single-handedly. The most famous of this star-studded side is undoubtedly Cristiano Ronaldo.

Unfortunately, Juventus were unable to make the most of the game and ultimately had to settle for a point.

But how did the Portuguese goal scorer do in Saturday night’s Serie A clash in fair Verona?

📷 Cristiano Ronaldo: Match Snapshot

A ⏱️ 49' After a rather full first half it was Ronaldo himself who opened the scoring for Juventus. Following a tremendous pass from Federico Chiesa, the Juventus forward received the ball inside the ball and, without a marker in sight, buried the ball into the bottom left corner.

⏱️ 67' With one goal already to his name, Ronaldo undoubtedly shows a huge amount of confidence as he receives the ball and turns towards goal to fire a remarkable long-range shot at Marco Silvestri between the posts. The Italian shot-stopper did well to not only stop the shot but held it too.

〽️ Cristiano Ronaldo: Rating Week-on-Week

DIMINISHED

Much like Juventus’ own run of form at the moment, Ronaldo’s recent stretch of performances have been both good and bad in equal measure.

Saturday night’s 7.1 FC Rating is undoubtedly better than what the forward managed against Porto or Napoli, but falls some way short of Ronaldo’s brace and 8.8 rating against Crotone last week - or indeed his own standards.

Indeed, the 36-year-old’s form since the turn of the year have been somewhat sub-par, with his last performance rating over nine coming as far back as January 3, during Juventus’ 4-1 victory over Udinese.

Ronaldo: What Next?

As we approach the business end of the season, we’re certainly going to really see what kind of player Juventus still have in Ronaldo.

The Turin side have two Serie A clashes against Spezia Calcio and Lazio, before the Champions League second leg against Porto in northern Italy.

If Ronalso and indeed Juventus are to salvage anything from this season then they’ll undoubtedly have to improve their performances dramatically in those three games and then show some much-needed consistency for the remainder of the season.
