Jadon Sancho moves into top 10 players in the world after fantastic start to 2021

Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho has looked back to his very best for Borussia Dortmund since the turn of the year and that undoubtedly shows in his FC Ranking.

The England international moved into the top 10 players in world football over the past week after consistently brilliant performances saw his ranking shoot up to 96.

Ahead of this weekend’s football, the 20-year-old talent now sits eighth in the world, behind Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, PSG forward Neymar, fellow Dortmund star Erling Haaland, Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, Chelsea defender Thiago Silva and Real Madrid goal scorer Karim Benzema.

Sancho’s rise up the Rankings has undoubtedly been down to the performances he’s been putting in for Dortmund recently, with no less than six goals and seven assists in all 11 games he’s featured in since the turn of the year.

In those 11 games Sancho’s average FC match rating has stood at an impressive 7.99 and his FC Ranking has shot up from 87 to 96. In other words, very few players around Europe’s top leagues have shown the kind of impressive form Sancho has put on for Dortmund of late and as such he’s back among some of the most highly rated players in the sport this season.

What perhaps makes Sancho’s form all the more impressive is that he - much like Haaland’s own form of late - has performed almost in spite of his team’s overall performances.

While Sancho has been scoring and creating goals for fun, his Dortmund side have still struggled to put together a decent run of results with just six victories from the aforementioned 11 games.

As such, Sancho’s remarkable run of form may seem a little bittersweet for most Dortmund fans. As good as he has been for the Bundesliga side, just how much are his goals and assists painting over some serious cracks in this squad? And what happens if the England forward does indeed move on to a bigger club in the summer?
