Premier League Team of the Week: Meslier masterclass earns Leeds a win

The best player of the Premier League week over Boxing Day and 27 December was Leeds United's Illan Meslier, who proved himself a formidable barrier in goal as Marcelo Bielsa's side defeated Burnley 1-0.

Though Meslier (9.2) was lucky to be given a free-kick after a botched attempted catch on the ball inside the box, subsequently ruling out a goal by Ashley Barnes, he grew in confidence as the game went on and made six saves in total to deny Burnley an equaliser.

His 12 ball recoveries helped keep the pressure off his defence, too.

It wasn't a vintage round for centre-forward as Ollie Watkins (7.8) makes the Team of the Week following his assist for Anwar El Ghazi (8.2) who also makes the cut after his outing in Aston Villa's impressive 3-0 defeat of Crystal Palace.

Making up the front three is Raheem Sterling (8.3), who recorded an assist and was Man City's best player in the 2-0 win against Newcastle. The England international won an impressive 10/13 duels in that one, and has the second most touches inside the opposition box of any player this week.

Tomas Soucek (8.3) proved his prowess from set-pieces again as he scored a header in West Ham's 2-2 draw with Brighton.

He is joined in midfield by Bruno Fernandes (8.2), who was once again excellent for Man Utd, this time scoring in the 2-2 draw versus Leicester, while Youri Tielemans (8.1) also impressed in that game.

Roman Saiss (8.2) was the player to break Spurs' hearts as it was his header which levelled the game late on, earning him a place at left-back.

Nathan Ake (8.4) enjoyed one of his best performances in a City shirt against Newcastle, winning the majority of his duels and 100% of his attempted tackles. Only Jordan Henderson had more touches of the ball than the former Bournemouth defender in round 15.

He is partnered by Joel Matip (8.3), who makes the Team of the Week despite going off injured against West Brom, with Joao Cancelo (7.9) making up the XI with a spot at right-back.
