Kieran Trippier given 10-week global ban for breaching betting regulations
Kieran Trippier has been handed a huge 10-week ban from football after the English FA found him guilty of breaching betting regulations.
The offences took place in July 2019, the summer in which the player moved from Tottenham to his current club, Atletico Madrid.
The full-back has been handed a £70,000 fine and of the seven alleged offences, four were found proven by the committee investigating the case.
A statement from the FA reads: "An independent regulatory commission was appointed to hear the case, with four of the alleged breaches found proven and three dismissed during a subsequent personal hearing.
"The independent regulatory commission’s written reasons for its decisions and the associated sanction will be published in due course.
"The suspension, which includes all football and football-related activity, is effective worldwide from today (Wednesday 23 December 2020) following an application to FIFA."
The news will come as a significant blow to both the player and his club Atletico Madrid.
Trippier has been one of the best defenders in La Liga this season and has been an ever-present for Diego Simeone's side, leading them to a flying start at the top of the table.
The ban will rule Trippier out of football until the last weekend in February, with fit-again Sime Vrsaljko likely to deputise for him.
