‘We’re here to win games and we don’t stop’ – Henderson revels in Liverpool win

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has spoken of his side’s formidable mentality after Roberto Firmino grabbed a last-minute winner against Tottenham at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s men moved to the summit of the Premier League thanks to the 2-1 success, which saw strikes from Mohamed Salah and Firmino sandwich a reply from Son Heung-Min.

In a match they dominated in terms of possession, it might have been easy for the Reds to have become frustrated towards the final whistle, but instead they simply kept plugging away.

“We’re here to win games and we don’t stop until the final whistle,” Henderson told Amazon Prime. “We just keep going until the whistle goes. At the weekend, we didn’t find a winner. Today we did.”

Henderson was delighted with the standard of the overall performance turned in by the Anfield club, who have moved three points clear of their London rivals at the head of the Premier League.

“It was a good game, very tactical. It’s probably what you expected, with us dominating with the ball. We never stopped, kept going to the end and got the winner that we deserved,” he said.

“It’s one of our best performances of the season. I thought the counter press was really good, winning the ball back high up, relentless with the pressure. I’m over the moon.”

Meanwhile, he hailed the display of Premier League debutant Reece Williams, who was tasked with shackling Harry Kane.

“He was outstanding,” the England man said. “I thought he was one of the best players on the park. I’m delighted for him. But not just him, Fabinho next to him, the whole back four and the whole team.”

He concluded by explaining that Liverpool’s focus is on their own performances and not the teams around them.

“It’s about us, it’s about what we do,” when questioned about landing a blow on a title rival. “Now our focus has to be on the weekend, against Crystal Palace.”

That match, Liverpool’s last in the league before Christmas, is the early kick off on Saturday.
