Although Upamecano didn’t assist or score either of the goals for Julian Nagelsmann’s side in Saturday’s victory, his defensive performance ensured the hosts kept a clean sheet and won the game.

No player from either side made more interceptions than Upamecano over the course of the match and the French defender also made six recoveries too. The young player also had more touches of the ball than any other Leipzig or Bremen player, showing just how influential he is to his team.

Of course, Upamecano isn’t just a orthodox defender. Over the course of the crucial win the young defender not only made more passes than any other player on the pitch, but the 97% accuracy of his passes was also unrivalled by teammates or opponents.

At just 22 years of age, Upamecano’s performances showcase a young player with wisdom and intelligence that seems far beyond his young age.

Upamecano: What Next?

With apparent interest in the French defender coming from Liverpool and Manchester United, there’s little doubt that impressive performances like this in the Bundesliga are going unnoticed in the scouting departments of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

However with a contract until 2023, it’s unlikely that RB Leipzig would be willing to let the central defender depart without a huge offer from one of the English giants.
