Lewandowski and Alaba to return - How Bayern could line up against Union Berlin

Bayern Munich head coach Hanis Flick will be delighted to travel to Berlin with the vast majority of his squad intact and without any major injuries.

Union have been in impressive form this season in the Bundesliga and will hope to make a dent in Bayern’s season, but Flick should be able to start a full-strength team with a number of key players enjoying a full week off.

In goals, Flick will be able to count on the seemingly ever-present goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who featured between the posts for Bayern in their midweek win over Lokomotiv Moscow.

David Alaba is likely to come back from a midweek break to partner Jerome Boateng in the middle of the park, along with the similarly rested Benjamin Pavard on the right and then Alphonso Davies on the left.

In midfield, Flick is still without the injured Joshua Kimmich and Corentin Tolisso, as well as Javi Martinez following his injury against RB Leipzig. As such, the Bayern coach is likely to stick with Leon Gorertzka and Marc Roca in the middle of the pitch.

Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman can be expected to take up their positions on the right and left flanks respectively after dropping to the bench against Lokomotiv, with Robert Lewandowski also returning from a midweek break to reclaim his title as Bayern’s talisman and leading goalscorer.
