Alexander-Arnold to start? How Liverpool could line-up against Midtjylland

Considering Liverpool’s recent run of misfortune when it comes to injuries to key players, most fans of the Anfield club would forgive Jurgen Klopp for resting a number of his players for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Midtjylland.

Following a win over Ajax in last week’s continental clash, Liverpool are already guaranteed top spot in their group and as such Klopp will surely opt to give most of his players the night off, as he welcomes more back from injury.

In defence Liverpool will continue to experiment with a number of inexperienced players, as Caoimhin Kelleher keeps his spot between the posts in place of the injured Alisson. Long-term injuries in central defence mean Joel Matip will probably keep his spot but will most likely be joined by Rhys Williams, since Nathaniel Phillips wasn’t registered to play in the competition.

Andy Robertson is expected to take the night off and let Konstantinos Tsimikas stretch his legs at left-back, while Trent Alexander-Arnold will most likely feature from the start as he returns to full fitness following his injury.

James Milner remains injured and this match seems too soon for Thiago to return to a starting role for Liverpool, so Klopp is likely to start Naby Keita from the offset alongside Jordan Henderson and Curtis Jones.

Similarly, the Liverpool manager will undoubtedly look to rest his key forwards in Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah on the night, allowing Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino to start up front alongside Diogo Jota.
