Dembele sidelined by another hamstring injury

Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele is set for another spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury.

The Frenchman appeared as a second-half substitute during the Blaugrana’s 2-1 defeat at Cadiz on Saturday evening.

However, Barcelona issued a statement on Sunday that the pacy wideman has sustained an “elongation” of his hamstring.

“Tests on Sunday morning, December 6, have shown that first-team player Ousmane Dembélé has a hamstring elongation,” reads the statement on Barca’s official club website.

“He will therefore not be considered for selection and the evolution of the injury will determine his availability.

“Against Cádiz, the French winger, coming off the bench, participated in his 12th game of the year and had, to that point, scored four goals.”

It is unclear yet how serious the injury is but it is yet another blow to a Barcelona side that has endured its worst start to a La Liga season in 33 years.

Dembele has been plagued by injuries since joining the club in 2017 for €145 million as a replacement for Neymar.

He only returned from a serious hamstring injury in August which had ruled him out for over six months.

The winger has had four hamstring injuries in the last 18 months and has sidelined with eight injuries in total since the start of the 2018-19 season.
