Lewandowski set to return? - How Bayern Munich could line up against RB Leipzig

Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick will be looking to bring back a number of rested stars for this weekend’s Bundesliga test against RB Leipzig.

Outside of Lucien Favre’s free-scoring Borussia Dortmund side, Julian Nagelsmann’s team pose the greatest threat to the Bavarian giants in the German top flight.

Fortunately for Flick’s side, early success in the Champions League allowed Bayern to rest a number of key players against Atletico Madrid in midweek, who will now be fresh for Saturday’s clash.

In defence, Manuel Neuer, Jerome Boateng and Benjamin Pavard will return after being rested and should partner David Alaba and Lucas Hernandez in the traditional back four.

Niklas Sule was given a full 90 minutes against Atletico, but he’s likely to return to the bench. And despite returning to light training Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich aren’t expected to feature until later in the month or next year.

Midfielder Corentin Tolisso missed training this week, so won’t feature against Leipzig. However Flick will be able to call upon a rested Leon Goretzka alongside Javi Martinez.

A familiar headache will confront Flick ahead of this match as he tries to pick between Leroy Sane, Douglas Costa, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman. However, considering the former two started in midweek, it’s almost likely that the latter two will start against Leipzig.

Similarly, Robert Lewandowski should take back his spot up front after missing out on the 1-1 draw against Atletico, with Thomas Muller playing off him as the second striker.
