Liverpool 'not really training' during injury crisis, Wijnaldum reveals

Liverpol are 'not really training' as they contend with fixture congestion and an injury crisis, Georginio Wijnaldum has revealed.

The Reds currently have nine first-team players out of action, while Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson both picked up issues that required further assessment during Wednesday's win over Ajax.

Yet the games continue to come thick and fast, with Jurgen Klopp's side set to continue a run of two games per week that began at the start of the season until the turn of the year.

Wijnaldum is as aware of the effects of that gruelling schedule as anyone, the Dutchman having started 10 games for club and country over the last 34 days.

Still, he is upbeat about his fitness, and is reducing his workload by training less frequently than would usually be the case.

“I don’t really have anything to complain about. I am blessed to stay fit during this period,” he said.

“I hope I can hold on until the end of the season. That’s going to be very difficult, but I’m confident.

“It’s really just playing matches and resting at the moment.

“There’s not really any training because there’s not a lot of time for that.”
