Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0 Real Madrid, Player Ratings: Varane flops as Blancos blunder

Emmet Gates

Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk performed a historic double over Real Madrid, as they swept aside Los Blancos 2-0 to put severe pressure on beleaguered coach Zinedine Zidane.

✔️ GOOD PERFORMANCE

Toni Kroos: 7.4

Despite his side being distinctly average, Kroos produced a relatively good display in the 2-0 loss.

The German completed 92% of his passes, which amounted to 93. Kroos also produced eight crosses as he desperately tried to get Real back into the game.

But he was one of the few standout performers for the Spaniards on a horrible night.

BAD PERFORMANCE

Rafael Varane: 5.3

Rafael Varane was horrendous throughout the game. The 27-year-old, usually so dependable at the highest level, was all over the place.

The Frenchman was at fault for the first Shakhtar goal, as he left the ball that allowed Dentinho to pounce.

Varane only won three of his eight attacking duels with Shakhtar players, and generally looked off the pace.

STAR MAN

Anatoli Trubin: 9.1

The 19-year-old goalkeeper produced an amazing display for the home side. Trubin, born in 2001, saved eight shots from Real Madrid's more experienced players.

His last involvement in this competition saw him concede six goals, as Borussia Monchengladbach ran riot.

However, he was a calm presence in goal for Shakhtar, and his performance against Real will boost his confidence going forward.

A significant night for the youngster.
